The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance is designed for individuals who are responsible for maintaining, inspecting, testing, fault-finding and repairing engineering equipment and systems within their workplace.

As a competence-based qualification, it enables learners to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a real working environment while meeting nationally recognised occupational standards.

Engineering maintenance plays a critical role across a wide range of industries, ensuring that plant, machinery and equipment remain safe, reliable and operational. Because maintenance principles are transferable between sectors, engineers from many different industries can achieve the same qualification while applying their learning to their specific job role and working environment.

Mechanical Maintenance

Mechanical – Must cover the following units:

  • Firstly, Carrying Out Fault Diagnosis on Mechanical Equipment
  • Lastly, Maintaining Mechanical Equipment

Plus two more units from the following:

  • Restoring Mechanical Components to Usable Condition by Repair
  • Producing Replacement Components for Maintenance Activities
  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Mechanical Equipment
  • Carrying Out Condition Monitoring of Plant and Equipment
  • Assisting in the Installation of Mechanical Equipment

UCAS

This qualification is set at level 3 and therefore has an equivalency to A’ Levels. To that end it also acquires UCAS points based on the grade achieved which can be used to gain entry to University.

  • Pass = 32 Tariff Points
Electrical Maintenance

Electrical – Must cover the following units:

  • Firstly, Carrying Out Fault Diagnosis on Electrical Equipment and Circuits
  • Secondly, Maintaining Electrical Equipment
  • Lastly, Modifying or Rewiring Electrical Circuits

Plus two more units from the following:

  • Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits
  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Electrical Equipment
  • Carrying Out Condition Monitoring of Plant and Equipment
  • Assisting in the Installation of Electrical/Electronic Equipment

UCAS

This qualification is set at level 3 and therefore has an equivalency to A’ Levels. To that end it also acquires UCAS points based on the grade achieved which can be used to gain entry to University.

Electronic Maintenance

Electronic – Must cover the following units:

Fluid Power Maintenance

Fluid Power – Must cover the following units:

  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Fluid Power Equipment
  • Carrying Out Condition Monitoring of Plant and Equipment
  • Testing Fluid Power Equipment and Systems
  • Assisting in the Installation of Fluid Power Equipment

Engineered Systems – Must cover the following unit:

  • Carrying Out Fault Diagnosis on Engineered Systems

  • Maintaining Fluid Power Equipment within an Engineered System
  • Maintaining Process Controller Equipment within an Engineered System

Plus one more unit from the following:

  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Engineered Systems
  • Carrying Out Condition Monitoring of Plant and Equipment
  • Assisting in the Installation of Equipment to Produce an Engineered System

Services Maintenance – Must complete the following units:

  • Testing Electronic Equipment and Circuits
    OR (but not both)

  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Communication-Electronic Systems

  • Servicing Cardiovascular Equipment

Instrumentation and Control – Must cover the following units:

Plus two units from the following:

  • Carrying Out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Instrumentation and Control Equipment
  • Repairing/Overhauling Instrumentation and Control Equipment
  • Testing and Calibrating Instrumentation and Control Equipment and Circuits
  • Assisting in the Installation of Instrumentation and Control Equipment

UCAS
